Special Collections & Resource Pages

The following resource pages and special collections were developed to serve as a resource for domestic and sexual violence advocates and others concerned about safety and justice for women and their children. VAWnet provides these resources as a source of information that you can evaluate on your terms and for your own needs, and inclusion on this list does not constitute an endorsement by the NRCDV.


Special Collections

  • Conflict Resolution Tools for Domestic Violence Shelter Staff includes selected materials and resources intended to equip advocates with a contextual framework and practical skills to better resolve conflicts that often arise within a shelter environment.

  • Credit and Domestic Violence includes key documents about credit reports, building and repairing credit, the Community Reinvestment Act, credit counseling, credit discrimination, credit and housing, and predatory and payday lending.

  • Domestic Violence and Health Care organizes resources into the following five areas: 1) the impact of domestic violence on health; 2) public health approaches to domestic violence prevention; 3) guidelines and issues concerning identification and intervention by health care providers; 4) information about collaboration between health care providers and domestic violence advocates; and 5) training. This special collection also includes a bibliography of related journal articles.

  • Employment and Domestic Violence includes key documents on DV as a barrier to work, DV in the workplace, employment discrimination, employment leave, job training, living wage, media messaging, minimum wage, and unemployment.

  • Grants & Funding includes information about funding streams, current grant solicitations available, application information and other issues and information related to funding.

  • Housing and Domestic Violence is a categorized and selected listing of articles, bibliographies, fact sheets, laws and court action, papers, regulations, reports and surveys on a broad range of housing-related subjects.

  • Housing and Sexual Violence (July 2010) includes resources to assist communities in developing more effective strategies to address the multi-layered and complex relationship between sexual violence and housing.

  • Human Trafficking aims to illuminate different forms of, and perspectives on, human trafficking and to provide relevant resources to help guide more informed and critical advocacy, research, and thought.

  • Immigrant Women and Domestic Violence highlights the common experiences of immigrant women who are in abusive relationships, the legal protections and public benefits available, and practices and suggestions for increasing the effectiveness of services provided to immigrant women.

  • Immigrant Women and Sexual Violence highlights the common experiences of immigrant women who are victims of sexual violence, the legal protections and public benefits available, and practices and suggestions for increasing the effectiveness of services provided to immigrant women.

  • Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) is a categorized and selected listing of articles, fact sheets, papers, reports and surveys that is offered as an additional tool to assist advocates working on and interested in IDAs and how they relate to ending violence against women.

  • Iraq: Insecurity and Violence Against Women aims to raise awareness about some of the realities facing women in Iraq. The collection focuses more specifically on how current events in Iraq have uniquely impacted Iraqi women and have engendered various forms of violence against women.

  • Little Children Are Sacred: Exploring Accountability to Australia’s Aboriginal Children explores controversial measures taken by the federal government of Australia within the Northern Territory, ostensibly to address the issue of sexual abuse of Aboriginal children.

  • Online Learning Tools on Violence Against Women provides a sampling of available Online Learning Tools with subject matter related to violence against women prevention and intervention. Materials included in this collection have four key components: they are 1) free, 2) available online, 3) interactive, and 4) self-guided.

  • Poverty and Domestic Violence emphasizes key documents on children and poverty, how poverty is measured, the intersection of domestic violence and poverty, and media messaging.

  • Preventing and Responding to Domestic & Sexual Violence in Later Life (July 2010) brings together selected materials related to preventing and responding to elder abuse, specifically domestic and sexual violence.

  • Preventing and Responding to Teen Dating Violence emphasizes collaborative and multilevel approaches to the prevention of and response to teen dating violence.

  • Reproductive Justice & Violence Against Women: Understanding the Intersections (June 2010) provides resources and an introduction to reproductive justice, focusing particularly on the connections between the elimination of reproductive oppression and domestic and sexual violence.

  • Researching Violence Against Women Online offers guidance that is meant to enhance skills and confidence on the Web, teaching ways to efficiently produce meaningful, relevant results.

  • Resources Addressing the Perpetration of Sexual Violence provides resources that address the topics of sex offender risk, assessment, management, treatment, and supervision.

  • Sexual Violence Public Policy Topics contains topic-specific resources related to public policy and systems advocacy. Current topics include: civil legal rights, clergy sexual abuse, DNA, drug-facilitated sexual assault, indigenous issues, marital rape, privacy & confidentiality, public health, sex offender, sexual harassment, sexual violence in military, prisons and on campus, and trafficking.

  • Stimulus Funds: The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act organizes materials related to Recovery Act (Stimulus) funds to assist state and local practitioners and policymakers identify, influence, and access information and programs of potential benefit to victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

  • Technology Safety & Advocacy includes a categorized and annotated listing of selected articles, fact sheets, papers, reports and other materials regarding the use of technology as it impacts and intersects with violence against women and children.

  • Traumatic Brain Injury and Domestic Violence: Understanding the Intersections (March 2010) offers tools to screen for traumatic brain injury within the context of domestic violence as well as presentations, articles, and other relevant resources on this topic.

  • Violence in the Lives of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing offers information regarding the experiences and needs of individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing and victims/survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence. The purpose of this collection is to: 1) increase knowledge and understanding of Deaf culture, 2) provide resources to assist helping professionals in direct service work with Deaf individuals, and 3) highlight best practices.

  • Welfare and Domestic Violence includes materials related to welfare, now known as the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), with a particular focus on the Family Violence Option and related provisions and their implementation at the federal and state level.

  • Working with Children Towards a Healthy & Non-Violent Future provides a unique perspective on working with children (younger than 13 years of age), focusing on theories and strategies for raising respectful, non-violent people. Resources discuss child development and how to utilize this knowledge when implementing primary prevention strategies that foster healthy attitudes and behaviors.

  • Working to End Violence Against Women in Brazil highlights and celebrates the tremendous work being done in Brazil to end violence against women. The selected materials and resources provide a snapshot of the magnitude of the problem and highlight various recommendations for public policy as well as opportunities for community involvement and action.
