Collected in this area of VAWnet are materials related to welfare, now known as the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), with a particular focus on the Family Violence Option and related provisions and their implementation at the federal and state level. This special collection is designed to provide advocates ready access to documents, fact sheets, research, legislation and rules, and other materials to support informed discussions with policy-makers and welfare personnel and effective advocacy on behalf of survivors.

TANF - Legislation and Rules
The 1996 Federal welfare law provided states the option of adopting and implementing the Family Violence Option (FVO) to address the needs of domestic violence victims receiving welfare. Included below is the full text of the FVO in the Personal Responsibility and Work Reconciliation Act (PRWORA) of 1996, the Final Rule issued by HHS to Guide it's implementation, as well as information on the larger TANF bill. Also included is information related to the new TANF provisions in the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005.
