Prevention & Education

Effective strategies and reliable, culturally-relevant tools are necessary to bring about heightened public awareness and the focused societal commitment necessary to end violence against women. This area provides resources to support prevention (primary, secondary and tertiary) and social change education activities that identify and address factors that perpetuate and increase risk of domestic violence.

Prevention
This area features theory and practice that promotes the prevention of domestic violence. Prevention approaches are designated as primary, secondary, and/or tertiary in nature, and "model" or "promising" programs, curricula, and initiatives are identified. Evaluation materials are provided to help guide evidence-based, cost-effective prevention efforts.

Education
This area includes strategies for raising awareness and increasing community engagement to end domestic violence. Specific campaigns and initiatives are identified, in addition to outreach strategies and materials for training individuals to identify, prevent, and respond to domestic violence in various settings. Several kits and tools are provided.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM)
The Domestic Violence Awareness Project (DVAP) collaborates to collect, develop and distribute resources and ideas relevant to advocates' ongoing public and prevention awareness and education efforts not only in preparation for DVAM, but also throughout the year. Resources discuss child development and how to utilize this knowledge when implementing primary prevention strategies that foster healthy attitudes and behaviors.

Preventing and Responding to Teen Dating Violence
This special collection emphasizes collaborative and multilevel approaches to the prevention of and response to teen dating violence. It draws on the work of many organizations and organizes the resources on TDV prevention and responses by different populations.
