( Alt: PDF )

Summary

The Migration-Trafficking Nexus: Combating trafficking through the protection of migrants' human rights (November 2003) by Mike Kaye of Anti-Slavery International examines the issue of trafficking within a broader migration framework and to propose policies which would be effective in reducing trafficking and in preventing the human and labour rights violations to which migrant workers are so often subjected today. The paper provides an overview of trafficking in people internationally and discusses migration today, including both push and pull factors that encourage international migration. Illustrations and examples from various regions around the world are highlighted. This document focuses on the need to recognize and respect the labor and human rights of all migrant workers as set out in the UN Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Their Families, 1990. A selected bibliography and useful websites are provided.
