Model Protocol Screening Practices for Domestic Violence Victims with Disabilities
( Alt: PDF )

Summary

Model Protocol Screening Practices for Domestic Violence Victims with Disabilities by Cathy Hoog, Abused Deaf Women's Advocacy Services for the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (Updated January 2010)

The goal of this protocol is to support domestic violence agencies in examining and revising their intake and screening process to include questions about disability issues. Routinely asking all individuals about accommodation needs gives the program information that enables them to provide appropriate accessible services. The protocol includes a recommended policy and procedures that cover initial contact and crisis intervention, providing ongoing services, a sample of screening questions and a reprint from Northwest Justice Project on signing documents when physically unable.
